Planning to move to Costa Rica advice on expat communities?

My spouse and I are thinking about making a big move to Costa Rica next year. We're both in our early 70s and can't wait to embrace a slower pace of life surrounded by nature. We're hoping to find a place near water, whether it's a lake, a river, or the coast that has a friendly community.

We're especially interested in hearing about expat communities in Costa Rica, where we can connect with others who have made the leap and share their experiences. We love outdoor activities, local culture, and a nice mix of tranquility and social opportunities.

We're planning to take a trip in early 2025 to spend a couple of weeks exploring different areas. Do you have any recommendations for towns or neighborhoods that would be a great match for us?

I've lived in Costa Rica for a few years. For stunning nature, a more 'jungle meets ocean' vibe, and a robust expat community, look into the Southern Pacific region, often called the 'Costa Ballena.'

check out Dominical/Uvita/Ojochal, these towns got a great blend of tranquility and social life, with a strong emphasis on outdoor living (waterfalls, hiking, whale watching).
The expat community here is active but has less of a 'resort' feeling than parts of Guanacaste
You'll find excellent restaurants, organic markets, and plenty of opportunities to connect with others who appreciate nature. It's truly beautiful down there

Awesome!! I heard places like Tamarindo, Nosara and San Ramón have great expat communities with a good mix of quiet and social life, plus plenty of outdoor stuff.
