Honestly, I'm not too sure about the current costs in the Philippines, I've heard things have changed, but I don't know specifics about prices or daily life there nowadays

I dont really know much but I know It's definitely more expensive now than it was 20 years ago, especially in cities like Manila or Cebu, normally domestic help is still relatively affordable compared to the west, but wages have gone up with inflation.

my cousin works in the Philippines now as a teacher, we talked about this the last time he was home. so, for a single person aiming for a comfortable expat lifestyle (including rent for a decent 1bedroom apartment in a city), you're looking at roughly ₱50,000 to ₱80,000+ (less then $1,350+) per month

Ok as a quarter Filipino I would say it depends where you want to live. If Makati or the business district like BGC, you might end up paying 25,000 pesos at least for the accommodation but that's already a good furnished condominium now. My family there spends like 5,000 pesos every 2 weeks for groceries and that's it.

A friend of mine decided to retire early and relocate to Dumaguete five years ago. He told me that his rent for a beachfront bungalow is even less than what he used to pay for utilities back in Florida. Groceries and dining out are really inexpensive, but he did mention that imported items can get pricey. He also has someone come in to clean twice a week, which he found a bit surreal at first, but apparently, that's quite normal there. And what does he say is his biggest expense now? His weekend getaways to the nearby islands.
