Living in Ensenada vs Fresno

I dont know if there's anyone here that would fit my description, I would love to hear from anyone who's lived in both Ensenada and somewhere like Fresno, CA, or even just visited both enough to compare the two. I'm trying to get a realistic picture of what the cost of living looks like in Ensenada these days, especially from the perspective of someone coming from the r mid cost U.S. city, I'm putting together a little content thingy fit for a retired couple or remote worker, so I need that cost of living for basic services, I've never been to Ensenada so I dont know how things like life and health insurance, car and the likes may cost
And Fresno isn't exactly a high cost city, but even here, rent and utilities have crept up fast. If Ensenada offers a similar climate and coastal vibe for less, it's something really good

I've lived in Ensenada for a bit of my life. Ensenada is noticeably cheaper than Fresno across the board on most basic factors like rent, food, utilities and healthcare. You can find decent rentals for around $500-700 a month, local services and groceries are affordable and even private healthcare is much less than in the US.. The climate and coastal feel are pretty similar to Fresno, but without the rising costs. For a retired couple or remote worker, I guess it's a solid option if you're looking to stretch your budget without sacrificing quality of life. Good luck

My brother made the move from Fresno to Ensenada a couple of years back after he retired. He's been really pleased with how much cheaper rent and healthcare are there, plus he loves the laid-back coastal atmosphere, which reminds him of Fresno but with way better weather. Did a tour vacation in Mexico a couple of years ago and stayed in Ensenada for a few weeks and I can say it's noticeably cheaper than Fresno. Not sure about long-term living there, but I've had a good time there, so I think it might be a solid choice, especially if you're on a tighter budget.

The rental you mentioned is pretty cheap! I've been to Ensenada before and a decent place like a comfortable apartment of small house could cost anywhere between $800 - $1,500 a month. Now I'm not sure if I was looking at the right place!

I recall a different price range for the rentals compared to what @JackSolo mentioned but I was only there for a short time so his longer-term perspective might be more accurate for current conditions. Still, I totally agree that Ensenada can feel like a breath of fresh air financially! When I stayed there, utilities were generally lower and gas was also quite affordable! Food is also a huge win for your budget, especially if you embrace local markets and eat out at smaller, authentic spots. Groceries were noticeably cheaper, and a great meal out won't break the bank! It definitely has a lower cost of living overall, and I think it's a great option for stretching a retirement income or making remote work even more comfortable!

Thanks for sharing! Ensenada sounds like a great option for a slower pace and lower costs. How's the internet reliability for remote work? And did you feel safe overall, especially in quieter neighborhoods?
